Gilsonite, also known as Natural Asphalt, is a naturally occurring solid hydrocarbon specifically a type of asphaltite found primarily in the deep layer of earth. It’s a glossy, black, brittle substance that resembles obsidian or coal in appearance but is chemically quite different.

Characteristics of Gilsonite:

Color: Black, shiny (glassy)
